The University of London is a world-class university renowned for its contributions to scholarships, research, and knowledge. It is also one of the first few institutions to offer distance learning, and the opportunity to pursue a University of London (UOL) degree by studying at a one of their recognised centres from around the world.

In 1986, HELP University was the first institution outside of the United Kingdom to offer the Diploma in Economics from the University of London, and it continues this pioneering tradition through HELP Academy by offering various UOL programmes.

HELP Academy is a Recognised Teaching Center for UOL Programmes, the highest recognition the UOL will award an institution that offers teaching and support for its programmes. The centre follows the academic direction provided by one of the top academic institutions in the world, The London School of Economics (LSE), which is part of the University of London.

The Bachelor of Science degrees offered at HELP Academy are Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Economics, and Economics & Management.

The degree courses offer many distinctive and unique features. Firstly, the academic content is developed by academics at the UOL; and secondly, the examinations are set and graded by the same institution.

Students studying at HELP Academy also have the option of completing their course locally or transfer their credits to universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

Another distinctive plus is that HELP has had more than 30 years of experience conducting the UOL degrees while producing well over 1,500 top achievers whom have continued to excel tremendously in their careers.

The programme also boasts of a comprehensive supportive ecosystem such as full access to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), a learning portal where students also can avail themselves to past examination papers plus examiners reports, and direct access to the University of London’s online library.

The UOL department at HELP Academy regularly organizes a Talk series on topics that concerns today’s global, marketing, and financial issues which students are encouraged to attend and participate. Some recent topics were on “Media journalism in Malaysia”, “Trade Wars and their impact on the Malaysian economy”, and “Introduction to Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies.”

Gaining a First Class Honours from the UOL is no mean feat, as the programme is academically very challenging, but each year HELP has every reason to be proud of its students and their academic successes. The continual First Class achievements of the UOL students at HELP Academy is a badge of honour we wear with pride.

One of HELP Academy’s recent achievers, Mr Tan Jia Jin, is a recipient of the prestigious London School of Economics (LSE) scholarship to study at the LSE Summer School programme in June 2020 in London.

“The opportunity to go to London to attend the LSE Summer School is a once in a life time experience. I have chosen to study ‘Journalism and Society’ at the summer school, because it is a topic that is close to my heart, and it will also allow me to explore a more liberal media landscape in the UK,” says Jia Jin.

Jia Jin is currently completing his UOL BSc (Hons) in Banking and Finance, on a full scholarship from HELP due to his excellent results achieved at SMK Chung Hwa Independent High School, KL.

He obtained an amazing 8As and 2Bs for his SPM, and 7As and 3 Bs for his Unified Certificate Examination (UEC), and continues to excel in the UOL programme at HELP with 4As, after his first year into the programme.

Mr. Baldev Sidhu, the Head of Department for the UOL Programme says, “I’m very proud to share that Jia Jin is the only recipient of the prestigious LSE 3-week Summer School scholarship programme. I’m sure he will enjoy himself there, and it’s a great opportunity for him.” The LSE scholarship is worth RM 11,000.

Jia Jin also serves as the President of the UOL Student Council and is an active member of the Council. Jia Jin is at the forefront of many socio-political talks organized for the benefit of the Faculty and this has increased the interest of students in such topics, while providing a source of intellectual discussion for many.
