The Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting of HELP University organised the 4th Colloquium on Social and Corporate Accountability on September 29, 2017, at ELM Business School. The colloquium was a roaring success and attracted about 200 participants, featuring 36 high-quality submissions from various participating universities, including partner universities from Indonesia and Vietnam.
This year, the theme was focused on social and corporate accountability, both of which are essential units in maintaining and promoting the financial stability and well-being of a society. The aim of the colloquium is to provide a platform for academics and students alike to exchange research ideas and establish a research network among the fraternity.
The keynote speaker was Associate Professor, Dr Azmi Abd Hamid, Head of Risk Management Unit from Universiti Teknologi MARA. In his keynote address, he gave a presentation on ‘Governance and Risk Management in Enhancing Social and Corporate Accountability’ in which he spoke at length about corporate governance, corporate accountability, risk and risk management and social accountability. He had also provided important insights into Malaysian cases and all participants would had gained an accurate and deeper understanding of how corporate accountability has impacted some Malaysian corporations.
Professor Khong Kim Hoong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of HELP University (Academic), and Stephen Wu, Vice-President of HELP University and Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting, were also present at the opening ceremony of the colloquium to welcome the distinguished guests and presenters.
“HELP University believes in encouraging our academicians to embark and promote such activities while providing an opportunity to introduce such scholarly pursuits to our students. An annual colloquium will maintain the momentum we started four years ago, and establish a research network for the academic contribution for the benefit of society,” said Stephen.
The participating universities included Universitas Sangga Buana YPKP (Indonesia), Universitas Balikpapan (Indonesia), University of Finance-Marketing (Vietnam), Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Universiti Malaya, International Islamic University Malaysia, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. A selected number of students and faculty members of HELP University also presented at the colloquium.
