The Faculty of Business, Accounting and Economics at HELP University (HELP) celebrated another year of success and academic excellence at the 29th HELP University Convocation when four out of the nine President’s Award winners were awarded to the students from their faculty. The four winners were Ong Wu Ping, Wong Hui Man, Lim Pui Voon and Bimal Kusi, all First Class Honours students and top academic achievers of the faculty.
The President’s Award is presented to graduands with the most outstanding academic achievements at the department level. The Faculty’s remarkable feat was marked by further jubilation as they had also produced the largest number of graduates at the convocation ceremony that was attended by more than 1200 HELP graduates.
“My knowledge has definitely grown and expanded when I was with HELP University. This course has helped me a lot, as the group assignments and presentations have boosted my confidence tremendously, taught me how to communicate effectively, as well as developed my teamwork, leadership and time management skills. The technical and soft skills that I have learnt here have also prepared me for my career,” said Ong Wu Ping, an Accounting major who is currently an auditor at KPMG, one of the Big 4 accounting firms.
Prior to his degree, he had pursued his Foundation in Arts at the HELP Matriculation Centre, and eventually enrolled into the Bachelor of Business (Accounting) programme upon completion. “I found that the Foundation in Arts at HELP was very interesting and that the lecturers were well-versed and experienced in their industry, and very willing to share their expertise and experience with us.”
Hui Man, an Economics graduate, shared her experience studying at HELP University. “I first found out about HELP University at an education fair in KLCC, and I gained confidence through word of mouth from people who have praised HELP. I chose to study economics at HELP University because it has a good blend of theory and quantitative studies. Being a person with strong analytical skills, I believed the programme was suitable for me.”
“After studying the programme, I can now better understand national issues, international affairs as well as the economic policies implemented by the Malaysian government. All the lecturers at HELP University are very dedicated and full of passion to guide and push the students beyond their boundaries.”
Like her fellow award winner, she had also completed her Foundation in Science programme at HELP Matriculation Centre before embarking on her Bachelor of Economics programme at HELP University. During her Foundation year, she participated in the leadership camps organised by HELP University and learnt to be more sociable and adaptable, as well as being more open-minded and culturally aware after meeting people from different countries at HELP University.
The success of the four President’s Award winners and the large number of business graduates are a testament to the high quality and standards of HELP’s Faculty of Business, Accounting and Economics.
Aside from driving their students to achieve academic excellence, the Faculty also promotes learning through extra-curricular and outdoor activities. Just recently, 18 students from the Faculty’s Hospitality and Tourism programme visited the One World Hotel, a five-star hotel in Damansara for an educational tour where they learnt about the hotel’s history and management, and the structure of their business. Hospitality and Tourism management is also a strong focus of the Faculty’s programmes. One of this year’s President’s Award recipients is Bimal Kusi from Nepal who obtained his Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) degree with First Class Honours. He is the latest of the Nepali students who have graduated with First Class Honours degrees in the same programme.
The Faculty’s passion toward education and teaching is not only limited to their own faculty, but it also extends towards secondary students. Each year, the Faculty hosts a National Accounting Quiz where more than 100 teams of students from secondary schools all over the nation gather to compete. The preliminaries are currently underway and the finals will be held at HELP University’s Subang 2 campus on July 8, 2017.
HELP University is renowned for its business, accounting, and financial programmes. Its graduates are well received by various industries and are able to secure jobs in many multi-national companies within six months of graduation. The Faculty of Business, Economics, and Accounting at HELP is one of the largest business schools in the region, and its Bachelor of Business (Accounting) (Honours) degree is recognised by many international professional accounting bodies.
This is a testimony to the educational quality provided by this faculty. Not all universities in this world despite their status, will have their accounting degrees granted maximum exemptions or accreditation by ACCA, CPA Australia, and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
For STPM and UEC graduates who are interested to pursue a business or accounting or finance degree, HELP University provides a 30% waiver on tuition fees for STPM graduates, and a 25% waiver on tuition fees for UEC graduates. There is also a 30% waiver on tuition fees for those interested to pursue a Hospitality Management, or Tourism Management degree programme.
HELP University also provides various scholarships such as the School Achiever Scholarship Awards (SASA) to outstanding students who have displayed excellent leadership and academic results. Other scholarships available are Distinction, Merit, and the Principal’s List Award Scholarships. Furthermore, HELP’s programmes are fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), and all HELP’s business diploma and degree programmes are listed in the loan list of PTPTN.
