Continuing the tradition of academic excellence with University of London Programmes at HELP

The University of London is a world-class university renowned for its high academic standards, and outstanding research and knowledge. Illustrious staff and alumni of the university include Nobel Prize winners, commonwealth leaders, government ministers, renowned authors, academics, judges, bankers, financial managers and leaders of business and industry. Degrees awarded by the university are comparable in quality to those from Oxford and Cambridge.

In 1858 the University started to offer its degress to students all over the world who could not study on-campus in London. Today, more than 54,000 students are studying University of London degrees in over 180 countries. This represents a global democratization of education which has maintained its quality and high standards despite its accessibility to the masses. The University’s degrees and its reputation for academic rigour remain highly respected by employers throughout the world.

Academic direction for the University of London Programmes is provided by the London School of Economics (LSE), an international centre of academic excellence and innovation whose teaching and research is recognised worldwide as a benchmark of quality.

HELP has delivered the University of London Programmes for over 30 years with distinction and notable achievements. It has consistently produced First Class Honours graduates every year.

In the 2016 exams, an unprecedented 17 First Class Honours were attained by HELP students. This places the HELP among the best teaching centres in the world and reaffirms its strength as a centre of educational excellence in Asia Pacific.

Low Chang Song, obtained his First Class Honours in Economics at the LSE where he had been admitted after his first year at HELP.

These excellent results prompted an elated response from Dr Mary Stiasny, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of London, who wrote to HELP:

“Seventeen First Class Awards is a stupendous outcome…all of us at University of London Programmes share your pride. My congratulations to your students and teaching colleagues who have helped make this magnificent achievement possible.”

In the 2016 exams, 3 HELP students also scored the highest marks in the world in specific subjects in the ULIP exams, beating students from other University of London’s teaching centres around the world. Seng Rou Lin obtained the best mark in Financial Reporting out of 1876 students worldwide; Tan Kok Jie: best mark in Management Accounting out of 2044 students worldwide; and Hoo Kah Kei: best mark in Mathematics 2 out of 866 students worldwide.

These scores elicited another round of compliments to HELP from Dr John Ferrá, Deputy Director of University of London Programmes at LSE:

“These are truly amazing achievements. This is a resounding endorsement of the high quality teaching undertaken at HELP Academy. Please convey this news to the relevant teaching staff whom I’m sure will be delighted to know.”

Most of the 17 First Class results are in the Accounting and Finance pathway. This places their BSc (Accounting & Finance) degree among the best Accounting & Finance qualifications in the world, as the London School of Economics is placed 5th in the world for Accounting and Finance by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018, ahead of the universities of Oxford, Chicago and Cambridge.

The latest round of excellent results places the HELP Group among the best University of London’s teaching centres in the world and reaffirms its strength as a centre of educational excellence in Asia Pacific.

Over a period of 30 years HELP’s graduates from the University of London Programmes have distinguished themselves in many fields. They have won scholarships for postgraduate study at top universities like the London School of Economics, Oxford, Cambridge, Wharton School of Business and Chicago (where they were mentored by Nobel Economics laureates Milton Friedman and Gary Becker).
